Time To Get Away
I realize how funny it is to be complaining about needing a vacation — especially since things have been so quiet around here the past couple months — but I feel like I need to get away for a bit. When things get silent here, it’s because I’m in head down, super concentration mode.
I’ve got more than two weeks of vacation banked up at work and I’m itching to take my first real break in over eight years. No conventions, conferences or unconferences. No networking events or parties. Just me and someplace quiet where I can go for a week and reset myself.
The question is, where do I go? Anyone have any ideas?

The meadow cottages are really peaceful and quiet if that’s what you’re looking for. The restaurant there is said to be the best in the area.

Hmm… in California — Big Bear (a good B&B), Ojai (same?) — otherwise somewhere tropical would be great. From Hawaii to Carribean or even more exotic like Australia or some Polynesian island.
This is a fun problem to have!

For a week-long trip where the only real goal is to escape and relax, I’d say Central America.. specifically Costa Rica or Belize. They’re close enough that it won’t take long to get there and you won’t have to deal with jet lag, but you’ll still be far enough away for it to feel like a real vacation.

I’ll second the suggestion of Belize. I went there for almost two weeks for my first real vacation, and it was awesome. You can do the whole backpacking thing if you want (which is what I did), or you can just pick a spot and chill. Specifically, I would recommend Caye Caulker (beautiful little island about 1 1/2 hours from Belize City by water taxi) or San Ignacio (near the Guatemala border, and there is this awesome little place called the Parrot’s Nest just outside of town).
