  • I’ve Got Shows In Different Area Codes…

Does anyone want to go with me to see Jello Biafra and The Melvins at The Henry Fonda Theatre on the 16th or Henry Rollins at The Coach House on the 23rd?

On their last tour, Jello and The Melvins peppered Dead Kennedys covers in with their original tunes. Hopefully this time around will be no different. Rollins, on the other hand is going to be doing spoken word – which is always a good thing.

Either way, two of my heroes performing on consecutive Wednesdays is just too tasty to pass up. So who’s in?

  • King Kukulele

    Wow, that’s a blast from the past…

Screenhead just pointed to a commercial for satellite radio featuring the locally infamous King Kukulele. The King was a staple at The Hub in Fullerton before they closed it down for renovations a little more than a year ago.

I remember spending countless nights watching him demolish the crowds with a well placed cover of “Folsom Prison Blues” or something as equally out of place. The looks on the faces of the unsuspecting people he’d throw his uke at before he’d snatch it back on its bungee cord. How uppity he’d get at the people on the back fringes of the audience who would dare to chat during his performance.

Come to think of it, he was sort of a jerk. I’m pretty sure that was just a schtick, tho. At least I hope it was.

I’ve lost track of him since The Hub closed down, but I’d love to know where he’s performing now. Anyone have any clues?

  • How’s That For A Slice Of Fried Gold?

    Oh. Fuck. Yes.

Underworld is apparently going to have new tracks available in their online shop sometime this week! This is quite possibly the best Monday I’ve had in at least a couple months.

I just hope whatever it is they’re selling is downloadable. Honestly, I don’t think that I can wait to get something shipped to me. And that’s sort of funny seeing as how I was doing fine before I read that there’d be new material dropping this week…

Update: It’s live! And as far as I’m concerned, it’s totally worth the £5.00.

  • It Weren’t Supposed To Be So Easy

I’ve been scrounging for the alternate cut of The Streets “Dry Your Eyes” featuring Chris Martin for some time now. And while I’m sure that I would have had it months ago if I made a habit of regularly reading Stereogum – or any other mp3 blog for that matter – I’m just happy to have found it on my own.

I’m not sure having Chris Martin on the track really adds anything to it, but I must admit that I rather like it. Even if it is the radio edit.

Anyhow, just thought I’d share the spoils of my hunt with the handful of people that actually manage to read this site. Perhaps you’ve been trying to get a hold of it too. Enjoy!

  • Walking With A White Stripe

I just heard the White Stripes cover of Tegan and Sara’s “Walking With A Ghost” and I must say that I rather like it.

So, uh, you wanna hear it? But hey, if the RIAA asks, you didn’t get it from me…

  • Love Is A Tiger Pit

Going and seeing MC Chris last night was a really good idea. He did as much stand up as he did rapping, but the audience didn’t seem to mind as everyone was in stitches all night.

What’s more, I’m very happy to have been introduced to the musical stylings of SNMNMNM last night, who sort of defy description. I guess you could call them emo, indie or pop punk, but that’d really be selling them short. Go see them live. Seriously.

Thanks to Soren and Kathryn for convincing me to drag myself out to Hollywood for the show.

  • We Be Clubbin’

From the look of things, I’m heading to Bootie tonight. As it stands, I don’t have anyone to go with but that shouldn’t stop me from having a good time.

Maybe I’ll run into someone I know. *shrug* Who knows…

Okay, I guess it’s time for me to shower, shave and load my shuffle up with tunes.

  • Islands In The Stream

I don’t know when Indie 103.1 started doing an mp3 stream for their radio station, but I really appreciate it. Like a lot.

Now all they need to do is offer their mash-ups in something other than WMA. Because seriously, fuck Windows Media Player…
