It feels weird to post a SNL Digital Short that’s actually been uploaded to YouTube by NBC, but here it is in all its uncensored glory. Oh yeah, a big ol’ NSFW on this one BTW…

Attack Of The Comment Spam
Something that’s been really grinding my gears lately is the amount of comment spam that I’ve been seeing in my moderation queue. Despite the fact that I use the very wonderful Akismet for WordPress, sometimes it can’t keep up with the flood coming down the proverbial tubes.
Something’s that’s really helped is a little bit of .htaccess magic that one of my coworkers sent me. What it does is keep people from hitting your wp-comments-post.php unless they’re submitting the request from your server. Of course headers can be forged, but it’s really proven to be quite useful to me. Because of this, I thought I’d be a nice guy share it with y’all. Peep this…
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} POST
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} .wp-comments-post\.php*
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !.*yourdomain.com.* [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^$
RewriteRule (.*) ^http://%{REMOTE_ADDR}/$ [R=301,L]Naturally, you’re going to want to replace “yourdomain.com” with your actual domain — but other than that, it’s ready to go. Since I spend a lot of my day helping folks troubleshoot their WordPress installs and .htaccess rules, I’d really dig it if you’d refrain from asking questions. That’s right, this spot of code is supplied “as is”, kids.
Enjoy!

Leave it to YouTube to have two of the most awesome local television ads I’ve seen in a while. Seriously, both of these are fucking awesome…

A Burgeoning Movement
Would anybody care that much if I migrated this site to the much easier to spell — but nowhere near as creatively named — jasoncosper.com? Right now it’s mirroring this site, but I was actually thinking of doing a move in the near future.
I’d be sure to update the feed URLs with all of the proper redirects and keep Ono Sendai live for at least the next year if I did manage to migrate it over. Still, I thought I’d ask the half a dozen readers that I have before doing it… ;)
Update: *shrug* Fuck it, I’ve officially moved. All of your old feed URLs should work for the time being.

The Maintenance of Magic
This is an amazing find! Stuff from the Park has posted a complete scan of a Disneyland Maintenance Department handbook from 1969. Since all of the images are on a single page, it’s not really suggested for the masochistic folks still on dial-up — but if you’ve got broadband and you’re as much of a Disney fan as I am, it’s totally worth a look.

Rocking Your Own Shit
I’ve finally had the time to read Pitchfork’s interview with James Murphy from this last Monday and it’s actually a pretty amusing read. If you’re into the LCD Soundsystem at all, it’s most definitely worth your time. Check it…
Pitchfork: You said you try to make music you want to listen to at home. Do you listen to your own records at home?
JM: Yeah, I do a lot.
Pitchfork: A lot?
JM: Well, before I go on tour. They’re new to me, and I’m just experiencing them. Right now, I just got this record done, so I’ve been driving around listening to it. I try to listen to it before it comes out because people see you driving your car and listening to your own record. It’s happened to me before. I was listening to an edit last year and pulled up to a red light in Williamsburg, and two kids looked in and were like, “He’s listening to his own record.”
Pitchfork: They knew who you were?
JM: Yeah, I was in fucking Williamsburg. And the kids were like, “Hey it’s the DFA dude…and he’s listening to his new record.” They probably thought, “What a jerk! Do you take pictures of yourself too?”

Four More Fake Indie Bands
I’m trying to figure out if four is enough of something to be considered a “list” — but since I can’t seem to come up with any more names right now, I really don’t care. So without further adieu, here’s a few more awesome fake band names for your ass:
- The Run-On Sentences
- Rural Juror
- Short Focus
- I Seem To Be A Verb
As always, feel free to use them if you want to…

The Sickening
I can’t remember the last time that I had a cold, but I know that I didn’t miss catching them at all. *sigh* Fucking winter.
My nose is alternating between runny and completely plugged, my throat feels swollen and I’m pretty sure that the only thing keeping me going is all the cold meds and Vitamin C I’ve been ingesting like crazy.
All I want to do right now is curl up into a little ball under the covers and find solace in 8 to 10 hours of solid sleep. I still have things to do tho. Soon enough, I guess…

Abusing The Generosity Of Others
When Moo was giving away 10 free Skype cards last month, I decided to jump on the offer and pimp my IM software of choice instead. As always, the Moo cards look wonderful.
I’ll need to order a batch of real ones soon. I’m running short on my last batch of business cards anyhow.

My New Morning Pick Me Up
While trying to recover from the Saturday night BarCamp party, I decided that I needed a little pick me up. It felt like it was too early for me to drink straight Red Bull — so I mixed it with some orange juice.
Man, I’ll be damned if that isn’t a tasty beverage. Seriously, you ought to give it a try sometime.
